Neil dies in 2020 and wakes up in 1984, in a world very similar to the one he knows. There are a few small differences, though, namely that he and Alex are both single, Alex is gay, and Neil apparently promised to be his romantic fallback plan.

Neil is certain this strange new timeline must be a dream or a hallucination of his dying brain. But when he realizes it's a viable second life, he must decide whether to recreate the choices he made before, or travel down the path not taken.
